Biography

Captain Bassani is a highly experienced aviation professional, former International Airline Captain, and certified Aircraft Accident Investigator with over 18,000 flight hours and more than five decades dedicated to aviation operations, safety, and training.

He built his career through progressive advancement in commercial aviation, serving as Flight Engineer and First Officer on the Boeing 727 before transitioning to wide-body operations with Cruzeiro and VARIG. He operated internationally as a DC-10 First Officer, was promoted to Captain on the Boeing 727, and later became an International Captain on the DC-10. He subsequently transitioned to the Boeing 767, retiring in 2008 as an International Captain on the Boeing 767-300.

His operational background includes extensive long-haul international flying across the Americas and intercontinental routes, combined with experience in line operations, training, and pilot development.

After his airline career, he transitioned into aviation safety and became a certified aircraft accident investigator with GPIAAF (Portugal), serving as Investigator-in-Charge (IIC) in multiple investigations involving complex operational and safety factors, including on-scene investigation work.

He holds advanced international certifications from the Southern California Safety Institute, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Airbus, ICAO, and EASA. He is also certified in Human Factors, Risk Management, and Air Safety Investigation by the European Association for Aviation Psychology (EAAP), and completed Flight Safety Certification with the Portuguese Air Force Inspectorate General.

In Brazil, he was certified by CENIPA as a Credited Element in Accident Prevention and served as a Flight Safety Tutor, trained by Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV), contributing to aviation safety education programs.

Beyond operations and investigation, he is an author, lecturer, and aviation safety advocate. He founded the aviation platform oaviao.com, authored a published book on fear of flying, and developed the Personal Flyer® concept to support anxious passengers. He is currently developing the Wings of Knowledge (Asas do Conhecimento) project, a bilingual 36-volume technical series focused on aviation.

He is currently based in Portugal, where he continues to work as an Aviation Safety Specialist, technical advisor, and speaker, with a focus on safety culture, human factors, and professional excellence in aviation.
